Is "Gotham" Season 3 cooking a romance between Oswald Cobbleplot a.k.a. Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) and Edward Nygma or Riddler (Cory Michael Smith)? The question first surfaced when Oswald developed a particular attention for Nygma after the latter somewhat comforted him. Of course, this made "Gotham" viewers wonder whether a gay relationship is happening in the show or if Penguin and Nygma's connection is just purely "bromance."
In recent "Gotham" episodes, Edward treated Oswald with compassion and respect after both of Penguin's parents died. Taylor recently shared his opinions about whether Oswald is queer, saying that he doesn't think Penguin is "necessarily gay" but he does operate in an "emotionally fractured" and "vulnerable" way after his parents died, TVLine reported.
Because of this, anyone who treated him kindly -- even if it's Barbara (Erin Richards), Butch (Drew Powell), or Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) -- is bound to receive the "same obsession" from Oswald like what he gave to Nygma, regardless if they were male or female. Taylor slammed some "Gotham" fans who claimed that they don't have anything against homosexuality but are worried about an Oswald and Nygma romance as not being canon.
According to Taylor, that sort of point of view actually means that you're "homophobic" and "afraid of gay people." He pointed out how "Gotham" already altered canon characters such as Batman (David Mazouz) and Catwoman (Camren Bicondova) growing up together and viewers are fine with that. It doesn't make sense that they approve of these changes but disagree over Oswald being gay.
It remains to be seen whether a romance between Oswald and Edward will happen on "Gotham." Nathaniel Barnes (Michael Chiklis), meanwhile, seems to be heading toward the dark side.
In episode eight of "Gotham" Season 3, Barnes paid no heed of the law and killed villains after he got infected with Alice Tetch's (Naian Gonzales Norvind) blood. Barnes attacked the plastic surgeon Symoun (William Abadie), threw him out of the wall, and declared that he is the "judge, jury, and executioner."
These signs hint of Barnes transforming into The Judge, a Batman villain who wants to take down all criminals in Gotham City, according to Cinema Blend. Chiklis told Blastr earlier that Barnes changed because "things are spiraling out of his control around him."
"Gotham" Season 3 returns for its 10th episode titled "Time Bomb" on Monday, Nov. 21 on Fox. In the upcoming episode, Nygma will seek revenge and Bruce will know more about The Court of Owls, SpoilerTV reported.
