HBO has already announced its new midseason schedule, with show premieres for February 2017. Curiously missing from the cable network's line up is any mention of "The Leftovers" Season 3 and there hasn't been any promotion release since filming wrapped up in September.
Has HBO been ignoring the drama series? The lack of teasers and confirmation of an air date have "The Leftovers" fans wondering.
"The Leftovers" Season 3 will be the last offering on HBO. The show that takes place after the rapture, which has 10 percent of the world's population mysteriously vanishing, hasn't admittedly been a ratings powerhouse on the network. Yet HBO's long silence about its return, however, is unusual, HBO Binge cites.
In October, the cable network released a teaser for its 2017 shows, which features "Girls," "Big Little White Lies," "Crashing" and "The Young Pope." HBO showed no clips from "The Leftovers" even for a second. Watch the said teaser below.
This week, HBO announced the return dates for "Girls" and "Last Week Tonight" (Feb. 12), as well as the debut of its Judd Apatow comedy "Crashing" (Feb. 19), according to Deadline. Still, there has been no mention of a confirmed premiere date for "The Leftovers."
The lack of updates have led to speculations that HBO might indeed be planning to put "The Leftovers" in its spring schedule. As Parent Herald earlier reported, "The Leftovers" could take over the slot of "Game of Thrones" in April 2017, as the latter series has pushed back its production and premiere date.
"The Leftovers" is currently in post-production. The stars of the show are already busy with other projects, as per another Parent Herald report. "The Leftovers" is headlined by Justin Theroux, Liv Tyler, Carrie Coon, Amy Brenneman, Margaret Qualley, Chris Zylka, Regina King, Kevin Caroll and Ann Dowd.
