Television: Good Or Bad For Your Children?

There is a saying where it was mentioned that "TV brings a family together." This may not seem entirely true today; where there are hundreds of alternatives available for entertaining oneself through watching television, foremost being the world wide web.

As the internet has taken over the world, television comprises of lesser programs are there which the family can sit together and enjoy. Diverse points of interests have made it difficult for television content creators to make a program enjoyable for all.

Huffington Post reports a view that children would easily take interest in watching TV and they should be allowed to watch TV. Television characters have become a point of discussion in schools and children must watch those tv shows so that they can discuss it among friends.

TV shows are also depicting cultures through which children can learn a lot about cultural values. Another important aspect is that TV serials also encourage empathy and good habits in children as they learn that it is good to help others when they are in need.

It obviously does not mean that children should not be supervised and allowed to select whatever they want because supervision and parental guidance is always the key. Parents should allocate a fixed time to watch television and programs that appeal to kids. Shows with abusive language and unethical values are dangerous for young minds and parents should keep an eye on what their children are watching.

According to a study posted on Dr Psych Mom, mornings are really hard for mothers and they can only remain calm when they have had their coffees or breakfast. It is better to let a child watch a cartoon show and making them a cereal rather shouting at them. Children are often seen imitating their favorite characters and they enjoy and giggle while doing so. It actually helps them in their mental and physical growth.
