Two Teens Get Their Suspension Reversed After Reposting A Racist Comment Via Snapchat

A couple of teen girls from Shaker Heights were bound to get some disciplinary action from their school after reposting a comment of one of their schoolmates that happened to be racist in form. The school where the two girls are attending decided to suspend them, but an organization that handles civil rights is against it.

In an article published by ABC News, two girls were caught re-posting a very racist comment of their schoolmate using snapchat. However, the American Civil Liberties Union didn't agree when the school suspended them for their actions. They argued that the two teens were entitled to their rights regarding freedom of speech since they did it outside the school's jurisdiction. Everyone should know the First Amendment and their rights to post whatever it is that they want on social media without having to be liable for their actions.

It is best to be careful on what you post on your social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat because slandering and libel are still against the law. But as long as still falls under rules of the First Amendment, then you are safe on whatever it is that you share in your social media. In lieu of that statement, the ACLU requested the school officials of the two teens involved in this issue to cancer a day from their given suspension.

According to the site Cleveland, the school Shaker Heights High School reversed their decision to suspend the two teens. However, one of them already served her suspension a week ago. The students who re-posted the said comment didn't regret what they did as they think they were only doing what is right to spread awareness on how racism is still very much real to this day.
