After finding out that some iPhone 6S units were installed with faulty battery packs, Apple announced that they will be replacing the batteries of these faulty units free-of-charge. The announcement came through a support document in the Apple website.
According to The Wired, Apple will be repairing any iPhone 6S unit manufactured between September and October 2015 as part of the free repair scheme. A number of the iPhone 6S units between these months are experiencing unexpected shutdown issues.
Anyone holding an Apple iPhone 6S unit believed to be affected by this issue may take the handset into any Apple store or any authorized service provider for inspection. A fee could be charged, however, for any damages on the screen or phone needed to be repaired in order to access the faulty battery.
Apple's support document also reminded iPhone 6S owners that they will need to backup their data and erase all data in the phone before going through the battery replacement process in order to replace the faulty battery pack. Data can be backed up using Apple's iCloud system or through iTunes.
The repair program is being done in Apple stores worldwide, but may be restricted to the country where the phone was originally purchased. Also, if iPhone 6S owners believe they had been affected by the faulty Battery issue and had their batteries replaced already, they can contact Apple to ask for a refund.
The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus units were released on September 2015 as upgraded versions of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Apple's iPhone 6 and 6 Plus series had many hardware issues like easily bent body, random crash and reboot due to flash storage issues, camera problems, and Touch ID and security issues leading to an "error 53" message.
Most of the Apple iPhone 6 issues were addressed in the 6S series through model redesign and upgrades, strengthening the casing, and shifting the touch controllers to remove Touch issues. Despite the issues of the iPhone 6 series, it got a generally positive response.
