The "Tomb Raider" reboot's plot has finally been confirmed. The movie starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft is expected to be released in theaters on March 16, 2018, thus filming should be underway soon.
"Tomb Raider" producer Graham King talked with Hey U Guys on what the new movie will be about to differentiate it from the earlier "Tomb Raider" movies that starred Angelina Jolie. It's been said that the reboot will basically touch on Lara Croft's origins, but now King has confirmed one crucial thing.
The 2018 "Tomb Raider" will focus on Lara Croft's search for her father, Richard Croft. But it's still unclear if he's dead or alive in the reboot. "It has a very emotional part to it and I think that's what Alicia found so interesting about it," the producer said as seen in this video below.
Slash Film notes that in the 2001 "Tomb Raider" movie, Jon Voight played Richard Croft. In the game series, it was hinted that he died but the cause of his death was unknown as various plot points indicated that he committed suicide or was likely murdered. There has been no word on the casting of Richard Croft for the 2018 "Tomb Raider" so far.
Earlier, Alicia Vikander talked about "Tomb Raider" and Lara Croft's origin via Flickering Myth. Being a big fan of the video game series that the movie is based from in her youth, and having seen Angelina Jolie's versions, the actress is pretty much oriented with the stories of "Tomb Raider."
She admitted, however, that she wasn't aware of the character's origin. But after trying out the latest video game, "Rise of the Tomb Raider" that was released in 2015, she has learned a bit more the video game icon.
"You're following this girl who, on her way to becoming what we all know her for, Tomb Raider, Lara Croft," the actress said. The 2018 "Tomb Raider" movie will supposedly follow the latest game slowly. Keep tabs of the latest news about this reboot on this site.
