Not be outdone, Google decided to come up with its own VR headset to keep up with the rat race. Google's Daydream View VR is reported to be a good introductory device by Google. Though good, it still has room for improvement. Not to worry, Google definitely has a lot up its sleeves to be at par with the great VR headsets available in the market today such as the Rift and Vive.
According to Forbes, the Daydream View VR is one that is comfortable to use. The soft fabric covering gives a nice feel to it and the flexible rubber frame keeps the device from being too heavy and uncomfortable, let alone awkward. The hinged flap that holds the phone in place makes it faster to get into Daydream View VR mode.
The Google Pixel and Pixel XL are so far the devices that would work with the Daydream View VR. This won't be the case for too long anyway. Android 7.1 version would make it possible for Daydream View VR to work on any phone that meets its requirements.
For the Daydream View VR to work, the phone need to have a sufficiently powerful SoC to render two 60fps videos simultaneously. It should also have a display resolution of at least 1080p with 3ms or less latency and 5ms or less persistence. It should also have Bluetooth 4.2 LE which is present in mid to high-end range phones.
The Daydream View VR headset comes with Bluetooth motion controller which automatically pairs with the phone the moment a user enters VR mode. There is also a trackpad on the controller which gives the user two ways to interact. This is considered more immersive that its competition, the Samsung Gear VR.
As added by The Verge, the Daydream View VR was conceived back in 2015 which is about a year after Google got into the virtual reality game. The technology of Daydream View VR began in a simple VR headset made out of cardboard.
The Daydream View VR as reported works with Google Pixel and Pixel XL. Upon release both the Pixel and Pixel XL were not readily favored by users because of its bland design. However, this is not viewed as an insult by Google.
Everything starts from simple ideas. Every part of Daydream View VR is cribbed from familiar soft goods such as ski goggles, shoes, t-shirts etc. Taking off from Google Cardboard, Google has definitely come along way with Daydream View VR and is believed to come up with better devices- a better and improved one soon enough.
