Everyone has been waiting for the “Avatar” sequel since the first film was released in 2009. Now, James Cameron speaks up and explains the technology behind the upcoming "Avatar 2" and why fans may have to wait a little while longer for the movie and its other sequels.
Yes, “Avatar” 2 is not the only thing that Cameron is working on. His team and 20th Century Fox are also gearing up for at least two more installments for the franchise, “Avatar" 3 and 4. But why is it taking them too long?
In a world where film franchise and sequels run the business, Cameron wants to provide more than this to the viewers. He wants to bring 3D movies to the viewers without using glasses, Cinema Blend reports.
When would that be? Well, there have been speculations that “Avatar” 2 will be released in December 2018, but there is still no confirmation from both Cameron and Fox.
So, what do fans know for sure, now? Here's what we know, for now.
“Avatar 2" will not be releasing trailers until 2017. For now, fans can enjoy the “Avatar: Toruk,” a stage play by Cirque du Soleil, which also gives hints on what viewers will be seeing in the upcoming films.
Cameron confirms that they’ve already made designs for the film based on the stage play. It’s a continuous process between the reel and real world, he said in an interview with Esquire.
As for the plot of “Avatar 2," the storyline will still focus on Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and Jake (Sam Worthington) with the additions of their children. The story focuses on the family and their struggle to live with or against humans.
With all these details for the “Avatar” sequel, Cameron is still unsure of the release dates. The renowned director reportedly wants to release all the sequels annually, and that’s what fans hope, too.
