The rare Pokemon card fetched a hefty amount of dough than expected. What was thought to be a $50,000 rare card sold more than its appraised value. Meanwhile, a commemorative solid gold Pikachu goes on sale.
In the last week of October, a rare Pikachu illustrator card spawned into Heritage Auction's inventory. The card was so rare that it was said that only 39 were proven to be in existence and was produced only for a specific event by CoroCoro Comics in 1998. The card was also described as the record holder for the highest sale price of any individual Pokemon and is considered ultra-rare. The Pokemon card was appraised by Heritage Auctions for $50,000, however, the Pikachu Illustrator exceeded everyone's expectations and sold for $54,970, according to CNBC.
Heritage Auctions is considered to have the largest collection of collectibles in the world. Established in 1976, Heritage Auctions has a wide range of collectibles from US and world coins, rare currency, western art, illustration art, vintage comic books & comic art, movie posters, entertainment & music memorabilia, to fine and rare wine, URL domain names and other intellectual property, luxury real estate. With the success of "Pokemon Go" and the Pokemon brand itself, it's no doubt that the card fetched a large amount of money. Although $54,970 is a lot of cash, collecting rare items brings pride, beauty, history, personal satisfaction and achievement for collectors. This is also a good way to make sure that the objects of history will be preserved.
And for those who want to jumpstart their card collection, a solid gold Pikachu card was released to commemorate the 20 years of Pokemon Trading Cards Game. The solid gold Pikachu card priced at 216,000 yen ($2,081) is a collaboration between the Pokemon Company and the jeweler Ginza Tanaka, according to IGN.
