At the height of the "Fantastic Four" reboot's flop, rumor has it that Fox is going to pursue a sequel to the widely awaited "Deadpool 2" movie instead of "Fantastic Four 2."
Cinema Blend reports that there's now a rumor going about that Fox is going to pull "Fantastic Four" out of the originally planned release window and give to another superhero, "Deadpool," with whom they have much higher hopes for.
As is standard with all movie studios, especially those with enormous budgets, Fox had their release dates already lined up for the next couple of years. These included a planned release date for "Fantastic Four 2" on January 9, 2017. The Daily Superhero has the rumor that the conversation is already going on behind closed doors that Fox is looking to make a change.
The website's unnamed source said that because Fox earned a "less-than-stellar" weekend box sales from "Fantastic Four," it quickly became a topic of discussion. It is said that the rumor is about Fox giving the supposed planned release date of "Fantastic Four 2" to "Deadpool 2."
And why not? After all, the released reboot did actually fail to meet everyone's expectations, even those of director Josh Trank, according to a separate report from Cinema Blend.
The "Fantastic Four" reboot director said it himself, through a deleted tweet. Cinema Blend caught and posted a screenshot of the deleted tweet, which said, "A year ago I had a fantastic version of this. And it would've recieved great reviews. You'll never probably see it. That's reality though."
The Daily Superhero further reports that back in mid-July, actor Ryan Reynolds said that he wants "Cable" and "Deadpool" together in a movie, and it looks like this could happen sooner than Reynolds or anyone expected if Fox is seriously thinking about a summer 2017 release.
On the other hand, Drew McWeeny of HitFix said, in reference to the "Fantastic Four 2" movie, "It may not make that original 2017 date, but they're [Fox] definitely planning to make it."
Things don't seem clear as of now, but what is known is that there is still plenty of time until a final decision is made. The 2017 release may even go to some other movie, and fans will just have to wait for what's coming.
"Deadpool" will hit theaters on February 12, 2016.
For the meantime, here's the trailer for the "most unconventional anti-hero."
