When a child learns to count, it marks the beginning of his practical understanding of mathematical problems. Children who can multiply big numbers are considered geniuses because their mental abilities are above than normal.
Science Daily recently reported a study that showed a mother's support is important when young children are learning math skills. The reason? It enabled them to enhance their mathematics in their later life. It was an evident finding that maternal support in playing and counting things could have lead to better mathematical knowledge among kids.
Researchers crosschecked the data of different children with maternal support in their routines. The results showed that mathematical knowledge of those with maternal care was clearly more as compared to kids who didn't receive as much maternal support or those who spent their activities on their own.
Purdue University Education also supports the view that mathematical values taught to children in their young age enhance greater skills and strong development of the brain in later life. The study tells that making children learn and understand the language used in maths such as more, few, some, a lot and less.
According to David Purpura, an assistant professor of human develop and family studies, learning through a quantitative approach in younger age have greater ability in maths in their adult lives. The research was conducted through teaching children using books with mathematical language and pictures.
The results showed that children scored higher in tests, not just specifically those books but overall mathematics. In another project with 50 Pre-schoolers, half students were taught through books with mathematical language and specifics and the other half were taught the regular curriculum.
Surprisingly, the children with quantitative approach books showed more understanding of mathematics even though the books were without the concepts of addition and subtraction. These books were specially designed with words like more, many, above, below etc.
