Parents have one beloved child most of the times, in some cases the first child, in others the youngest one. Sometimes even the middle child is a secret winner of the affection, but the trend remains. The reason could be psychological or based on some other factor.
According to Sundaypost, parents that favored one child in their wills are almost ten percent of the total. There are different reasons behind their decisions, some say that they have an emotional connection with the child, few give the idea of giving more share to one child that they are more responsible for finance.
James Beresford, head of tax, trust, and wills explains the importance of letting children into confidence while making such decisions. Beresford stated that to avoid conflict; parents must tell their children the reasons behind their decisions, and make them understand what they want to do for their best interest.
The Guardian tells lots of stories in which wills turned out to be the cause of an emotional breakdown. People leaving their children aside and giving all their money to trusts or animal cares can be devastating for children as they might never understand where did all the affection go when their mother or father made such a decision for that matter.
In some other cases, parents left their houses to their siblings and relatives back in the country, thinking their accomplished children doesn't need their properties, this might be true in the financial sense, but the sense of emotion is lost in such instances.
Although the law in the UK allows people to inherit their properties to whomever, they wish disinheriting children is more disturbing mentally than materialistically. It is therefore advised by the law firms to discuss the wills with the relatives and reasoning is the key to making them understand their decisions.
