"No Man's Sky" now has new features and an improved interface following its first major update since being launched. The Foundation Update comes just a few months after the PC and PS4 game faced complaints for supposedly failing to live up to its hype.
The update finally adds the base-building feature of the game. It is the first of many additions, according to the "No Man's Sky" official website. Different rule sets will apply to players depending on which of three game modes they choose: normal, creative, or survival.
Normal mode refers to the original exploration experience in "No Man's Sky," while creative mode allows for exploring the universe without limits and building larger bases. Survival mode, meanwhile, promises a more challenging endurance experience.
The focus of "No Man's Sky" is building bases. Players can make uninhabited bases their own using modular structures and decorations, Engadget reports.
Players can also hire aliens to research new technology, and use Terminus Teleporters to move to and from their base. Bases can be expanded using containers for storing resources and products.
What's more, players can find more beautiful locations simply by dismantling their bases and having all the resources they have spent refunded to them. The interface of "No Man's Sky" has also been overhauled with a quick access menu.
Launched in early August, "No Man's Sky" became controversial for alleged false advertising. According to a report by Engadget in September, certain features advertised in concept videos were not available in the actual game. This prompted the U.K.'s Advertising Standards Authority to investigate its developer, Hello Games.
However, Forbes says the Foundation Update has not fully addressed the game's issues. What about you? How do you find the latest update to "No Man's Sky"? Share your experiences in the comments below!
