Thanksgiving Box Office: Disney’s ‘Moana’ Turned The Tides With $97M While Brad Pitt’s ‘Allied’ Sinks

Disney Studios dominates the Thanksgiving box office with the animated family film "Moana." The animated movie bags $97M worldwide in the present and continues the high tide, while the movie "Allied" starring Brad Pitt is on the bottom but slowly strives to the top.

According to Hollywood Reporter, "Moana" started with $21.8 million on Friday for a projected five-day holiday debut in the $80 million-plus range, and now its is already in $97M and counting. However, the movie "Allied" current total gross is still on $18M.

Just this weekend, "Moana" still tops for the weekend (Nov 25-27) gross earning $55.5M maintaining its spot in the first place. "Allied" on the other side luckily places fourth for this weekend's gross with $13M.

"Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them" for this weekend is currently following "Moana" with a total weekend gross of $45.1M and a total gross of $156.2M. "Doctor Strange" starring Benedict Cumberbatch only places third with a weekend gross of mce_markernbsp; 13.4M but still on the first place with a staggering total gross of $205M, as per Box Office Mojo.

Even if "Moana" had very strong digits in its opening, it is not on target to best fellow Disney title Frozen with $93.6M to score the top five-day Thanksgiving opening of all time. Instead, it should rank No. 2. Among all films, the top five-day Thanksgiving gross belongs to 2013's The Hunger Games - Catching Fire with $109.9M, followed by Frozen.

"Moana" garners tremendous reviews plus an "A" Cinema Score. Allied earned a B CinemaScore, while Rules Don't Apply received a B-.
