‘The Crown’ Season 2 Spoilers: How Suez Crisis Brought England Fell On Its Knees, The Three Prime Ministers And The Beatles

The first season saw the ascent of the young 'Lilibet' to the throne as Queen Elizabeth II, her trials as she moves to her new role and the adjustment from a simple married life to being the Head of the State. "The Crown" Season 1 is all about Lizzie's transformation. But when Season 2 comes next year, expect the scenes to present more political, more challenging as Elizabeth faces the toughest battle of her young reign that brought England to its knees.

The Suez Crisis

Vanity Fair revealed that "The Crown" Season 2 will start with the story about the catastrophic short reign of Anthony Eden (played by Jeremy Northam). During Season 1, the showrunners have shown some glimpse of how world leaders view England's next prime minister. History has already spoken, yet it still brings out the curiosity of every viewer how Eden's short-lived power proved to be a 'massive embarrassment' especially the 'Suez Crisis'.

As Jonathan Pearson puts it in his book "Sir Anthony Eden and the Suez Crisis: Reluctant Gamble," the initial euphoria they produced gave Eden a false sense of his own condition, while their side-effects exaggerated his personality traits, increasing his insecurity and vanity.

Three Prime Ministers

Exactly two weeks after the showing of "The Crown" Season 1, Vanity Fair released their interview with Claire Foy who plays the role of Queen Elizabeth II. Revealing that they are already a month of shooting the second season, the 32-year-old British actress also revealed that showrunner Peter Morgan is looking to tackle up to 1963 or 1964.

That being said, Queen Elizabeth II will have to deal with three Prime Ministers in "The Crown" Season 2 with Eden being the first after the resignation of Winston Churchill (played by John Lithgow). Harold Macmillan will succeed the short-lived reign in power of Eden, followed by Alec Douglas-Home after former's seven years in office.

"The Crown" Season 3 Spoiler

Should "The Crown" Season 2 ends up by 1964, then the third season will start with a controversy. What is this controversy? Not to give out an obvious spoiler, but this controversy deals with a popular group composed of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
