The Church of Scientology came to the consciousness of most people because of its high-profile members such as Tom Cruise and John Travolta. This religion though is deemed mysterious and secretive by many to view Scientology as a cult. In a new documentary, "Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath," the 46-year old actress who is also a former member tries to expose all the gruesome practices of the church.
Leah Remini who left the church in 2013 is the host and producer of the said docu-series wherein she airs interviews from members who like her also denounce their separation from the church. The premiere episode of the said series this week came out with explosive accusations such as rape and abuse as posted in USA Today.
One of the members features in the premiere is Amy Scobee who joined the group at 14 claimed she was sexually abused by her boss in Scientology who was married at the time and already 35 years old. Part of Scobee's testimony said that even though the wife of her boss and basically the whole church know about the rape, no one bothered to report the incident to the police.
Scobee added that Scientology leader, David Miscavige is a violent man who constantly does physical harm to members who disobey or displease him. Moreover, once a person become a member, it is every hard for someone to leave Scientology.
Leah Remini also boldy labelled Scientology as a cult since she explained that this group forces members to drift apart from loved ones as posted by Daily Beast. She adds that after a while, a member starts to feel superior to the rest. Remini reiterates that Scientology must be stopped.
