'Star Trek: Discovery,' has announced that two new actors will be joining the cast of the new TV series. Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp will be taking part as crew members of the starship Starfleet.
There's an addition to the 'Star Trek: Discovery' cast member. Dough Jones and Anthony Rapp will be playing the role of Lieutenants for the Starfleet space ship. Jones will be playing Lt. Samu (a new alien species), while Rapp will portray the role of Lt. Stamets.
Jones is known for his roles in fantasy, science fiction and horror movies. He played the role of Abe Sapien in 'Hellboy' (2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008), Billy Butcherson in 'Hocus Pocus' (1993) and Gentleman in 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' (1997). Other notable films he took part in is 'Pan's Labyrinth' (2006), Doom (2005), 'Adaptation' (2005) and 'A Series of Small Things' (2005).
Another addition to the 'Star Trek: Discovery' cast is stage and film actor and singer Anthony Rapp. He will play the role of a gay crew member of Starfleet. He is best known for playing the character of Mark Cohen in the Broadway musical production 'Rent' (1977). Rapp also portrayed the role of Charlie Brown in 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown' (1999). He is considered as one of first openly gay men in Broadway.
Earlier news announced that Michelle Yeoh, best known for her role in 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon', will also be a part of 'Star Trek: Discovery' as captain of the starship, Shenzhou. The castings for Yeoh, Jones and Rapp were confirmed last Tuesday by CBS.
The 'Star Trek: Discovery' will continue the story of the 'Star Trek' series after the Enterprise. It was first scheduled to air in January 2017 but has been pushed back to May 2017 to allow ample time to refine the scripts.
The other roles that have not yet been announced include a female admiral, a British male doctor, a male admiral and a Klingon captain. CBS might formally announce the 'Star Trek: Discovery' casts for these roles in the coming months.
