"Star Trek Discovery", is in the making but unlike other TV series, it can only be viewed on CBS' streaming site, CBS All Access. The streaming platform as explained by CBS Interactive CEO Jim Lanzone is opted, based on the perception that sci-fi broadcast is not so popular on TV.
It can be disputed in the near future but for this "Star Trek" series, it is not created for a broadcast show. Other sci-fi shows might do well on TV screens but not for "Star Trek Discovery" at this time. However, it's a unique offering for online subscribers.
Jim Lanzone's speculation is that it would be hard to cope for "Star Trek Discovery" if is shown regularly on CBS material-wise. That is actually practical considering that science fiction projects don't make much money on general viewing because they have a niche market, according to Cinema Blend.
However, that could change after the launching. CBS will air the premiere show live on CBS and followed by subsequent episodes on CBS All Access. This is to promote to traditional CBS viewers to make them aware that original shows like "Star Trek Discovery" can be accessed through the streaming service only.
Jim Lanzone hinted that CBS All Access is also feeling the way through programs like "Star Trek Discovery". Will "futuristic chants" and "alien nudity" drive the audience nuts or they will love it? Certainly, there's something unique with this episode - not like the ones already on TV.
The showing of "Star Trek Discovery" is estimated to be ready in January 2017. A preview broadcast on CBS Television Network would signal it's existence first. The premiere episode and the rest of the initial episodes will be exclusively available in the United States on CBS All Access, according to the Star Trek website.
