Professor Matthew McConaughey Participates In Rape Elimination Program At UT Austin, Makes Students Feel Alright, Alright, Alright

Actor Matthew McConaughey recently took part in The SURE Walk program at his Alma mater, the University of Texas at Austin. The said program is aimed at rape elimination in the campus and ensures the safety of the students, especially those who go home after classes at night.

BBC reports that the Oscar-winning star was seen driving students home one night using the SURE Walk service. SURE is short for Students United for Rape Elimination, a volunteering initiative by the student leaders. The volunteers take students' home between 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily.

On Facebook, the UT Austin's student government posted a photo of Matthew McConaughey on the driver's seat with the students he's bringing safely to their dorms or apartments. The post has generated mostly positive reactions, with some students saying they are proud that their leaders have come up with such a program. Kevin Helgren, the student body president, is pleased that the photo was shared on social media as it will help further their cause to have students use SURE.

Matthew McConaughey's active participation in the school's programs should not come as a surprise though. He is widely-known to regularly visit his Alma mater when he's not busy making movies and he is a huge fan of its football team, according to the school's college paper, UT News.

In June, the university also announced that the actor will be holding special classes at UT Texas Austin, making him part of the faculty. According to Variety, the Hollywood superstar is teaching a film class called "Advanced Producing: Script to Screen," which will be accessed online. The class is open to upper levels in a limited capacity.

Matthew McConaughey graduated at the university in 1993 with a BS degree in Radio, Film and Television. He is also part of the school's Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Watch what actually happened when the actor drove the students via SURE in the video below.
