"The X-Files" Season 11 might never happen even as Fox still believes there's more the show can offer. Actress Gillian Anderson, who plays FBI agent Dana Scully in the cult series, has expressed the show is already over.
Gillian Anderson is grateful for social media for reviving "The X-Files" after its cancellation 14 years ago. Not only did it give her the opportunity to reprise her iconic role, it also gave her the platform to push her advocacies such as ending slavery and child trafficking. She actively campaigned about it while promoting the return of the series.
But given her busy schedule, Gillian Anderson said that "The X-Files" Season 11 won't be possible anymore. "I think it is finished," she said, according to Reuters.
Only recently, Fox was hopeful for another season of the paranormal series. But a source close to show creator Chris Carter confirmed that negotiations with the network have not worked out.
Anne Simon, who is an adviser on the show, tweeted that the show's status is currently at a "definite maybe." She didn't reveal anything further about what's going on with the negotiations for "The X-Files" Season 11.
Upon its return in January after a 14-year cancellation, "The X-Files" squashed ratings on Fox. According to Den of Geek, the network gave Chris Carter and the show's stars a go for future episodes because the reboot was well-received.
The plan was to produce another short and limited season. But with Gillian Anderson and co-star David Duchovny already committed to other projects, returning to production for "The X-Files" have been impossible to work out.
