‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Spoilers: EP Intended To Add A New Gay Character; Michelle Yeoh, Doug Jones And Anthony Rapp Have Joined In!

Spoilers continue to float for the upcoming "Star Trek: Discovery." The anticipated series will feature new missions, new ships and new characters. CBS Access has recently confirmed to add more stars in the roster of cast, and reports say the series will feature an interesting gay character. Fans of Michelle Yeoh will now see their beloved star taking the lead in the upcoming "Star Trek: Discovery" together with newly confirmed cast members "Hellboy" Doug Jones and "Rent" alum Anthony Rapp.

Michelle Yeoh is the latest addition to the stars of "Star Trek: Discovery." Yeoh is set to play the lead role of Captain Georgiou, who is the Starfleet Captain of the Starship Shenzhou.

On the other hand, "Falling Skies" Doug Jones will portray the role of Lt. Saru, the new alien species and a Starfleet Science Officer to the Star Trek universe. Not much details were provided for his character so fans will have to wait for more updates.

Lastly, "Road Trip" star Anthony Rapp will play the role of Lt. Stamets in "Star Trek: Discovery." Lt. Stamets will be the new gay character to aboard the Starship Discovery. This character is the astromycologist, the fungus expert, and the Starfleet Science Officer. Fans of "Star Trek" franchise can recall that "Star Trek Beyond" has also featured a gay character in Lt. Sulu (played by George Takei).

The executive producer Bryan Fuller, who himself is a confessed gay, emphasized that the addition of at least one gay character in "Star Trek: Discovery" is very important to him. Fuller explained that they have encountered heaps of hate mails while they were doing "Star Trek: Voyager" when rumors came out pointing that a character will come out gay in the show, and despite this, Fuller became more determined to add a gay character, Entertainment Weekly reported.

"Star Trek: Discovery" will be released in May 2017 on CBS Access.
