With the demand of powerful handheld devices on a steady rise, MediaTek is once again breaking barriers as it recently announced the Helio X23 and Helio X27. Both chips will expand the Taiwanese chip makers' acclaimed X2 line and stretch the benefits of their deca-core and tri-cluster setup.
According to Android Authority, the Helio X23 and X27 will "have the same setup": two ARM Cortex-A72 cores and two sets of four Cortex-A53 cores. Eventually, the Helio X27 will be MediaTek's prime offensive and flagship model must-have with a clock speed of 2.6GHz. The Helio X25 System on Chip (SoC), which was also previously announced by MediaTek, clocked in at 2.5GHz.
Phone Arena meanwhile said that the two new additions will support the promising dual-camera setup proposed by most OEMs that particularly carry MediaTek's board. This will be highlighted by their Imagiq technology that should "integrate color and mono cameras and depth-of-field applications". What this means is that MediaTek wants to enhance and re-think the way we take pictures by building its "quality and functionality". Think of your Smartphone or tablet taking DSLR quality images.
Additionally, the novel processors will also be capable of supporting MiraVision's EnergySmart Screen technology. MediaTek said that the Helio X23 and Helio X27 will have devices save up to 25% "of power normally required to drive the display." The Envelope Tracking Module on the other hand will add another 15% savings in power consumption "during peak operation periods".
With battery life still an issue for most mobile devices, MediaTek is entering the field where energy and power consumption won't be as elusive as it was before. Of course, the more power users save in their devices, the more productive they become. It's not hard to imagine that the new Helio chips will be incorporated in the next line of devices; it will be "soon", said MediaTek.
