Just like the Lenovo's Moto Z and Apple's iPhone 7, Samsung is planning to follow suit in removing the 3.5mm headphone jack from their next flagship phone, the Samsung S8, and will use a USB Type-C port for audio.
According to Android Authority, SamMobile's sources confirmed that Samsung plans to remove the standard 3.5mm headphone jack from the Samsung Galaxy S8. instead, the Samsung S8 will have a single USB Type-C port like the Samsung Note 7 which will be used for data, charging and audio.
The Rumors have not been confirmed yet, but this means that those planning to buy the Samsung S8 will need to buy a USB Type-C port adaptor for their headphones or buy a new USB Type-C Port headphone. Users could also opt to use Bluetooth headphones to avoid the hassle of using the USB Type-C port for audio use.
The USB Type-C port, which first launched on the Samsung Note 7, offers fast charging and faster data transfer from PC to phone. The Samsung Note 7 ran into problems with the fast charging of the USB Type-C port and caused some units to explode -- hopefully, the design flaws have been addressed in the Samsung Galaxy S8.
SamMobile's sources also note a few other Samsung S8 specs, like a fingerprint sensor and an integrated stereo speaker by HARMAN, which Samsung recently acquired. The Galaxy S8 will also have a 2k Super AMOLED display, but will not have a PenTile layout to improve sharpness and color. The Samsung Galaxy S8 is also rumored to come in 5.7 and 6.2-inch screen variants.
The removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack will allow more space inside the Samsung Galaxy S8, giving more room for the battery or a bigger hardware memory. One major issue the Samsung note 7 encountered and what caused the explosions, as per Cnet, is the cramping of the battery due to manufacturing errors, causing the phone battery to short-circuit and catch fire.
