Those who watched "Man of Steel" must have witnessed how Superman killed the Kryptonian supervillain, General Zod. The gruesome death that Dru-Zod encountered did not really end his story in the growing DC Cinematic Universe.
In the trailer of Zack Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" movie, Zod's corpse was shown. In an instant, fans knew that he would be playing a vital role in the upcoming superhero flick. However, many were intrigued to how his character would return with a pair of flippers.
Shannon, who played General Zod in the film, revealed that he was locked in the set's port-o-potty and struggled to open the door. "I was in my costume, and I couldn't use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands," Shannon told Vulture during the screening of his other film, "99 Homes."
"So I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn't open the door, and I could hear Zack [Snyder, the director] being like, 'Where's Shannon? Where the fuck is he?' and the whole crew was standing around. I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, 'Let me out of here!'"
Shannon was lucky that he found a personal superhero in the person of the "craft-service guy, who doesn't have the best craft service."
"He was actually paying attention to what was going on. He came over and he opened the door for me. Otherwise I would have gotten fired," the actor joked.
Many were intrigued how the flippers would work for General Zod. However, there were speculations that his character would become Doomsday. According to Comic Book, Zod's corpse was stolen or acquired by Lex Luthor, and it was experimented, with the hopes of finding Superman's weakness. However, while experimenting, he "triggers the Doomsday genome," causing the corpse to reinvigorate as the mindless killing machine.
According to the report, "Zod's body will take on the appearance of Doomsday, and from that point on he could be anybody." This suggested that the flippers would no longer be something inappropriate for Shannon's character.
Although there were not enough information to confirm the rumors, the speculations made sense, according to CinemaBlend. The title suggested that there would be a conflict between the titular superheroes, Batman and Superman. However, they would eventually join forces to defeat a common enemy, the genius Lex Luthor. Strength-wise, Luthor would not be able to match the superheroes, but with Doomsday in his control, he would have the perfect agent to battle the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" will hit theaters on March 25, 2016.
