It's no secret that the award-winning ABC comedy "Modern Family" has been around a long time. But after eight seasons, cast member Eric Stonestreet thinks that the show might have just one season left.
Speaking with People, the actor said that "Modern Family" could have already reached its twilight. He senses that the show is ending and that it would be good to do it on a positive note.
"Maybe we have one more season," Eric Stonestreet said. "Maybe we have two more seasons. Nobody really knows," he added. What he's certain of is that everyone in the cast and crew show up on the set to work hard every week. Despite criticisms that the show has slid in recent years, Eric Stonestreet believes everyone working on "Modern Family" has been pouring consistent work.
"Modern Family" premiered on ABC in 2009 and have increased in viewership as it progressed. In 2012, the show ranked as the fourth-highest rated series among hundreds, according to Deadline.
According to Cinema Blend, the cast entered into renegotiations of their contracts in 2012, which enabled them to demand for higher salaries until Season 8. Half of the cast were still children at that time, but their characters have evolved. So much so that the show might have reached its peak in storytelling.
Eric Stonestreet also reflected on how much the children have grown in a separate People interview. "Ariel, Rico, Nolan, and Sarah, [they're] just good adults now," the actor said. He's extremely proud of his TV family and relishes in the fact that he has gotten to work with them.
Meanwhile, "Modern Family" will air its fall finale this Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 9 p.m. The episode entitled "Snow Ball" will feature the teenage boys' school dance and the family will be volunteering in the preparations. The show will return with a new episode on Jan. 4, 2017.
