Toddler Rejected By Hospital Three Times Was Put To Life Support, Now Recovering In Another Hospital

A 3-year-old Warrawong toddler with life-threatening ailment has been put in a critical state after Wollongong Hospital rejected him three times. Hamza is being treated at Sydney Children's Hospital where he was detected with sepsis, a possibly fatal condition which caused the toddler's vital organs to shut down.

Sheima Morsi brought her son, Hamza, 3, to Wollongong Hospital after he had a seizure on Monday. The toddler was identified with an infection by the doctors in the hospital and was ordered to go home with Panadol after many hours of examinations. The mother claimed that the toddler was given diagnosis even though has not undergone urine or blood tested.

Days passed, the toddler's symptoms worsened, and so his mother decided to return to the hospital. She kept on calling the hospital to beg for the toddler's admission, but the hospital every time she called, as she claims, just kept on rejecting her.

She was told, "Unfortunately we can't keep kids here just because they have a fever, you have to go home." During that moment, the toddler was in her hands, all floppy. "His whole body was just pale white," Ms. Morsi told 9NEWS. The desperate mom went on to look for another way to treat his son.

Eventually, the child was taken to Sydney Children's Hospital. In the hospital, the toddler was diagnosed with sepsis, a possibly fatal sickness which has caused the vital organ of the child to stop functioning. The condition is alleged to have been caused by an infection in the throat. The doctors at Sydney Children's Hospital told the mother that if she were not persistent that day, the toddler would have died that night.

Today, Hazma has been manifesting some marks of development and is projected to stay in the hospital for few more weeks. A spokesperson from Wollongong Hospital said in a statement sent to news.com.au that the hospital has started an investigation into the incident.
