NBC's superhero comedy "Powerless" is making some changes a few months before it premieres. The show starring Vanessa Hudgens, which is set to begin its run on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 8:30 p.m., has added a Batman connection.
"Powerless" was originally supposed to be set in a fictional insurance firm but that has been changed into Wayne Security, a sub-office of Wayne Enterprises. DC Comics fans and Batman film lovers know that this is the company Bruce Wayne owns. Bruce Wayne is, of course, none other than Batman.
According to Batman News, "Powerless" tweaked its show synopsis a bit to establish the Batman connection. This time, Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens) is now employed as the Director of Research & Development at Wayne Securities.
In the original synopsis for "Powerless," Emily Locke is described as a claims adjuster who works in one of America's worst insurance companies. Though the show is a workplace comedy, it comes with a twist because the world on "Powerless" is also filled with superheroes and villains along with regular human beings, Variety reports.
Emily Locke, who possesses no powers and superhero abilities, will stand out as a heroine among the powerless, hence the title. Tired of the different disruptions that these costume crime fighters and villains are causing in her city, she does things her own way to help those in need.
"Powerless" comes from Ben Queen with Warner Bros. Television as the producing studio, which owns the license to DC Comics characters on television. The show's development was first announced last January and eventually got a series pickup in May.
Joining Vanessa Hudgens in "Powerless" are Danny Pudi, Alan Tudyk, Ron Funches and Christina Kirk. A leaked teaser unofficially released by NBC has been making the rounds online. Watch the cast talk about their show in the video below.
