"House of Cards" did not get any love from the Golden Globes following the announcement of the newest nominees for the annual awards. The show, which used to be a favorite on the nominations list, was missing from this year's honors.
Stars Kevin Spacey (President Frank Underwood) and Robin Wright (First Lady Claire Underwood) have also not been nominated for Best Actor and Actress despite winning the Golden Globes before. Ex-cast member Mahershala Ali (Remy Danton), who leaves the show after Season 4, received an acting nomination. Unfortunately, it's not for his work on "House of Cards."
According to the Baltimore Sun, the Golden Globes snub of "House of Cards" is baffling as Season 4, which was released in March on Netflix, received 12 nominations during the Emmys in July. But fans believe the show has lost its luster in its recent season. The unfortunate snub might just as well be a confirmation that "House of Cards" Season 4 has not been stellar.
"House of Cards" is in the middle of filming its fifth season in Baltimore. It will center on the re-election bid of President Frank Underwood with his wife as his VP running mate. Netflix has not announced the new season's release date, but previous seasons have come out on the platform around March.
Meanwhile, former "House of Cards" cast member Mahershala Ali, who played the White House Chief of Staff on the show, has reasons to celebrate. The actor has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes for his work on the movie "Moonlight," according to Entertainment Tonight. He has already snagged a Best Supporting Actor trophy for the same role from the Critics' Choice Awards early this week.
The actor said that working "Moonlight" has given him new perspective. He hopes that this brings more opportunities for people of color. "We want to see diversity and see people being included on every level. I hope that this is a real beginning for that," he told the news outlet. Mahershala Ali announced his departure from "House of Cards" in August, as Parent Herald reported.
