Samsung Galaxy S8 News & Updates: S8 Might Have A Fingerprint Scanner

Samsung's upcoming smartphone, the Galaxy S8, is likely to have a fingerprint scanner. Although details about it are not yet confirmed, there's a strong indication the Samsung Galaxy S8 will at least have this feature.

That's because Synaptics, Samsung's manufacturing partner, recently announced it will create its own sensors for smartphones. It did not say that the sensors will be for the Samsung Galaxy S8, but according to CNET, the announcement is a hint that the new Samsung smartphone will have it.

The Natural ID FS9100, the optical sensor that Synaptics announced it will manufacture, is similar to what Samsung is attempting to achieve, CNET reports. It is said to be waterproof and scratch-proof, and will have security feature that can tall fake from real fingers. It is also thin and consumes little battery power.

There have long been rumors that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will no longer have a home button at the bottom of the screen and instead have an optical sensor that can scan fingerprints. Among its many advantages is that it can increase the screen size of the smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is also likely to be quite similar to the Galaxy Note 7, the controversial device that has been recalled due to safety issues. Quoting a Korean news portal, the International Business Times reports that the Galaxy S8 will have the Note 7's Y-OCTA display technology and the 5.7-inch Super AMOLED resolution panels that were used on the Note 7.

This means the Samsung Galaxy S8 is likely to have a high-quality display. Aside from this, the smartphone is reported to no longer have a headphone jack and will instead have a USB Type-C port. The Galaxy S8's speakers will also be boosted using technology that Samsung recently acquired from a car specialist.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to debut at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona, Spain in February 2017.
