Fan-favorite Sonequa Martin-Green will not only be seen in the AMC hit series "The Walking Dead" as she will also be part of the "Star Trek: Discovery" series. According to reports, the "TWD" star will be playing the lead character in the series.
"Star Trek: Discovery" will be airing in CBS All Access and Martin-Green being tapped to be the lead star of the new drama has marked the end of the search efforts of the production team finding the ideal actress to play the role. Martin-Green will play a lieutenant commander on "Star Trek: Discovery," Entertainment Weekly reported.
"Star Trek: Discovery" Season 1 will have 13 episodes and a two-hour premiere on CBS will be shown this coming May. It centers on the history of Starfleet and will be telling the story of the lieutenant commander on her journey to know more about how to get along with other people and characters in the galaxy, TV Line reported.
Many are now asking whether Martin-Green will no longer be part of "The Walking Dead" in the future since she will have to shoot more scenes in "Star Trek: Discovery" due to the fact that she is the lead star. On "TWD," Martin-Green plays the role of Sasha and she remains to be very much alive so fans might speculate soon that she will be killed off.
Martin-Green's casting marks the first African-American woman to lead the cast of a "Star Trek" franchise. Also, it will be a departure from the "Star Trek" tradition since the main character in "Star Trek: Discovery" is not a captain. Executive Producer Bryan Fuller said in a statement that people have seen six series from the captain's point of view so to see a "character from a [new] perspective on the starship - one who has different dynamic relationships with a captain, with subordinates, it gave us richer context."
Other projects that Martin-Green starred in are "The Good Wife" of CBS and "Once Upon A Time" of ABC. Sonequa Martin-Green has not yet released a statement about being casted for "Star Trek: Discovery" and what her future in "The Walking Dead" is.
