Scientists recently found out that abortion has no connection to women acquiring a mental illness, rather the denial of getting one could jeopardize their mental health. Unfortunately, not all states in America welcome the idea of pro-choice.
In an article published by Minn Post, scientists have observed women for five years who had an abortion and women who were denied to have it. They found out that the latter were prone to suffering from mental illness, as they eventually delivered the baby. The denial of getting an abortion made these women even more depressed and anxious in the first six months of their pregnancy. Whereas the ones who were approved to have it didn't experience the same thing.
According to Alternet, those who are against abortion including some of the people in the government are in it to make women think that abortion could damage their mental health. Proving that are the nine states who require medical practitioners to render to women such belief that abortion has indeed something to do with mental illness. These nine states include Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska, North Caroline, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and West Virginia.
What these doctors fail to tell women is that 90 percent of those who went for abortion felt relieved after the procedure. There are even some who would make women feel guilty should they choose to go for abortion, saying that they are robbing themselves of happiness if they continue with it even though the whole process if legal and safe. It is the guilt that planted in women's minds that mostly cause them to suffer from mental illness.
Dr. Antonia Biggs, one of the scientists in this said, the bottom line is that there is no concrete proof that abortion could result in having a mental disorder. No women should fear about making this choice in their life, especially when a medical professional handles the procedure.
