Followers of the TV series, "Shameless," can now heave a sigh of relief with an announcement that the TV show will indeed return for a Season 8. "Shameless" remains one of the most-watched TV series (tied with "Homeland") with around 5.8 million viewers every week. This comedy-drama series which follows the Gallagher family premiered in 2011.
According to Variety, Season 8 of "Shameless" will consist of 12 episodes and will still star Emmy Rossum and William Macy. The announcement of the show's renewal was made a day after the airing of the finale episode of Season 7.
"Shameless" has always been a high-rating show so everyone is actually expecting its renewal. However, another season for the TV series became a question recently because of an issue involving equal salary between actress Emmy Rossum and her male co-stars.
Before the announcement of Showtime, Rossum made headlines by spilling the news that she had made a deal that will seal her return to the series as per Deadline. Aside from having high viewership, "Shameless" is also Showtime's longest-running TV show. This comedy show is adapted from a British series and the executive producers are John Wells, Sheila Callaghan, Nancy M. Pimental, Krista Vernoff, Christopher Chulack, and Etan Frankel.
In the series, actor, William Macy plays the role of Frank Gallagher, a father to six children who struggles with alcohol and drug addiction. Meanwhile Emmy Ross plays the character of Fiona, Frank's eldest daughter which takes on the responsibility of taking care of her siblings.
