Steven Avery Sure Of 2017 Release One Year After 'Making A Murderer' Launched On Netflix

It's been a year since the debut of "Making a Murderer" on Netflix and Steven Avery, the controversial subject of the documentary series, is sure that he will be finally released in 2017. He has been in prison for nearly 10 years along with his nephew and co-accused Brendan Dassey.

In a Christmas card addressed to his family and supporters, the 54-year-old "Making a Murderer" subject implied that he's looking forward to his potential exoneration from prison in 2017 "Science will save me [and Brendan] in 2017," Steven Avery wrote in the card, according to Daily Mail.

Steven Avery's lawyers, headed by Kathleen Zellner, are strongly counting on an overturn of their client's conviction due to a recent DNA re-testing of the evidence of the blood samples from the crime scene. They are confident that the new results will reveal what they have been saying all along: that their "Making a Murderer" client was framed for the murder of Teresa Halbach.

Meanwhile, Brendan Dassey's lawyers have had a victory last August when a judge ordered his release. It was determined that his confession to the police was coerced, according to Chicago Tonight. Viewers of "Making a Murderer" Season 1 saw how this confession played out.

But Brendan Dassey is still behind bars even as the order has been laid out. The state has filed an emergency motion to challenge the judge's order and prevent his release, thus a retrial could likely follow. According to Bustle, Dassey's lawyers have filed another request last Dec. 6 asking the courts to release him while awaiting his retrial.

As for the other subjects in the "Making a Murderer" docuseries, The Wrap reports that Steven Avery's former lawyer, public defender Len Kachinsky, still maintains he's not the reason why Avery is in prison. He has received so much criticisms from viewers of the Netflix series.

State prosecutor Ken Kratz also received criticisms from viewers and admitted to contemplating suicide because of the popularity of the case as a result of the airing of "Making a Murderer." He wrote his own take on Steven Avery in tell-all book that was released this year.

"Making a Murderer" Season 2 is currently in production, but Netflix has not yet announced its release date. Stay tuned for the updates on this site.
