In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Alex Kurtzman revealed a significant change. According to the director, Nick Morton, the character of Tom Cruise in "The Mummy" was not given the chance to save the day. The plot did not include such arc so fans will see a different scenario with Tom Cruise now.
Director Alex Kurtzman acknowledged the fact that all of the roles that Tom Cruise has done in the past 30 years have been linked to saving the day. Fans know that a Tom Cruise movie will always feature the actor as one who will figure out a solution to save the day. Kurtzman even said it was a great role and that is also the reason why he pays to see Cruise's movies.
However, "The Mummy" will be a different thing for Tom Cruise's fans now. Kurtzman explained that in the context of a monster movies such as "The Mummy," the characters are extremely out of control and have no idea on how to save the day. Kurtzman emphasized that it was actually challenging for them. The director also confessed that he has even told Cruise that he finds it scarier that they will remove the iconic image of his role of getting problems solved at the end of the day.
The publication has also shared a sample of a teaser photo for "The Mummy." The render shows Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe with an intense look while talking to each other in one scene. Russell Crowe is playing the role of Dr. Jekyll in the upcoming movie.
Meanwhile, Bloody Disgusting speculated that Nick Morton will most likely be the next Van Helsing. Rumors circulate that Tom Cruise's character would be instrumental in linking all of the monster films together.
