PC gamers get to experience to Crytek's virtual reality game as the game publisher recently announced that the dinosaur-themed VR "Robinson: The Journey" is heading to PC, specifically to Oculus Rift, this month. Players can now explore a once promised paradise planet and find the other missing survivors alongside HIGS, one of the Esmeralda's AI units.
"Robinson: The Journey" was initially released exclusively for Sony's PlayStation VR last November 2016. But now, they are giving PC players a chance by releasing the action-adventure VR title on Oculus Rift, the VR device for PC platforms.
However, there has been no solid news regarding the release date except that it will be no later than January. Also, the pricing has not yet been fully disclosed. Since January is here, details will soon be revealed by Crytek.
"Robinson: The Journey" is one of the games Crytek has been experimenting to pave the way in making games more immersive by taking advantage of advanced and brand new tech, according to GameSpot. So, they took the experience to PSVR, thus the birth of the Dinosaur-themed action-adventure VR game.
Relatively, "Robinson: The Journey" is a VR game carrying everything great and amazing but annoying about virtual reality gaming. In fact, when the VR title launched, it received mixed reviews from various critics. Most praised it for its stunning visuals. However, it was limited by its puzzles and short play time. One critic said that it was "one of the most immersive, engaging games to hit PSVR." But he did note that due to the poor frame rates, the game caused motion sickness to players.
If you are unfamiliar with the "Robinson: The Journey," it is about a boy by the name of Robin whose massive ship Esmeralda crash-lands on a planet stuck in what seems to be the equivalent of Earth's Cretaceous period. Robin soon discovers that Tyson III is not the paradise that was once promised as he searches for other survivors and the crew and comes face-to-face with dinosaurs. But the boy is accompanied by the surviving AI aboard the ship, HIGS, as described by the game's official webpage.
In other Crytek news, the game develop has been in financial hot water as they recently shut down five studios across Asia and Europe. Also, back in 2014, it can be recalled that Crytek UK and Crytek US previously shutdown. Now, the company seems to be focusing more on CryEngine and a few more areas of development. rStay tuned for more news when the official release date of "Robinson: The Journey" for Oculus Rift and its corresponding price.
