Nintendo’s Classic Game Boy Lives On As ‘Super Retro Boy’ From Retro-Bit

We have seen classic game consoles and game titles being revived during the past few years. But the Game Boy coming back would be the cherry on top. If you remember your childhood, most of the kids around the block nagged their parents into buying one of the most famous consoles of their generation.

Nintendo retired the Game Boy about almost a decade now. The company doesn't seem to have plans as well in bringing back the console, probably because they are too busy with their active ones and an upcoming one, the Switch.

Instead, a company called Retro-Bit is stepping up and intends to bring Game Boy back from retirement. According to The Verge, Retro-Bit has been making again classic consoles since 2007. They have been the "forefront of the retro gaming world."

Super Retro Boy is sort of the clone to Nintendo's Game Boy. Retro-Bit's console was designed to feel and look similar to the original one from Nintendo. In terms of design, that's where the similarities end and the upgrade begins.

Super Retro Boy has an extra pair of buttons below the A and B buttons. This is to accommodate Game Boy Advance titles. Another upgrade is that gone are the days of hunting 4x AA batteries. The Super Retro Boy has a 2500 mAh rechargeable battery, with a playback capacity of up to 10 hours, which you can charge via microUSB. Surely, this will last longer than your current smartphone.

Retro-Bit's console's screen is scratch- and shatter-resistant TFT HD display. This typically fits the modern-day feel of the console. Don't worry about your old cartridges because the Super Retro Boy is able to play Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance cartridges.

It works with the same cartridges. But if you can't find the game you want to play, just wait since Retro-Bit is in talks with some of the original publishers to check they can re-release classic game titles.

Super Retro Boy is expected to launch this August in North America and might retail at $80. However, for UK market, the retro console's ability is yet to confirmed by Retro-Bit.
