Nintendo NES Classic Hacked, Owners Can Have More Games

The mini NES Classic Edition is currently hard to find even if it only comes with 30 games. There are no official additions as of now but in just a few time, the $60 console has been hacked adding more games to the NES Classic Edition.

Earlier this week modders from Russia and Japan discovered that there are actually ways on how more games can be added to the system. ROMS are added to make space for additional games that are initially limited to 30 games only. It is worth noting that such act is strictly illegal.

Games including "Battletoads", "River City Ransom" and the original "Mega Man" will appear on the additions in the console. Last Wednesday, A modder with a user name madmonkey shared to a Rusian forum a guide on how the console can be hacked

The guide posted by the Nintendo's NES Classic hacker requires a file that is already saved in the initial slot for "Super Mario Bros." Good thing because the process does not need to alternate the hardware according to Kotaku. It means that NES Classic owners can have old NES games if they are brave enough to add ROMs and experiment with different hacks.

According to CNET, the hack requires a PC and a Micro-USB cable. Of course, the PC should have a high tolerance with malware. As to the owner or to the person doing the hack, it is worth noting that such act will disregard the law.

It means that even if the hacker is the owner of the console, it is still not legal to transfer games not authorized by the Nintendo NES Classic. Although open-source games designed for the console is a different thing.

It is said that the console is more capable than what it is perceived initially given the proof of the hack. It will not be a surprise if a new version providing for different game libraries will be offered in the future.
