New Child Tracking Device Promises Peace Of Mind For Parents; What Is Jiobit?

It is kids' nature to wander around and many parents have fears about their children getting lost in crowded public places. A Chicago startup is hoping to provide moms and dads some peace of mind by developing a new child tracking device with a unique look and features.

GPS tracking wearables have been around for years and child tracking devices have also been in the market for a while, according to Tech Crunch. Jiobit founder and CEO John Renaldi, however, recognized most child location trackers have limitations and he experienced this when his 6-year-old wandered off in the park.

"As a parent, I've always been concerned about my kids' safety and this event left me feeling like I needed to do more," he said, according to Snap Munk. So he developed a child tracking device that would appeal to both parents and children.

Jiobit looks inconspicuous as a tiny square device that's slightly bigger than a button. This rechargeable child tracking device can be attached to pockets, a kid's belt, or a backpack. It won't feel heavy and it won't affect the child's movement or mobility since it is made of flexible and light silicon.

Jiobit works with a mobile app that CNET describes as a "hybrid system of location tracking" that's not commonly seen among current kid tracking devices. It works with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and cellphone signals and sends parents notifications about their kids' whereabouts.

With continuous use, the app should be able to learn the child's routines to become more personalized and specific to the user. Then it will alert the parents whenever it detects any unusual changes. Eventually, Jiobit users will also be able to connect with each other to create a network of parents, relatives, child-minders and or teachers.

CNET also reports that Jiobit, which is awaiting launch later in the year sans funding, will be featured on a subscription service. As much as the child's safety is a big concern, however, the device's privacy settings could be a big concern.

Parents, will you be keen on using this child tracking device? Learn more about Jiobit in the video below.
