The baby's condition

Ahmed Maher Ali and his team made the report on the newborn baby. They were from the Pediatric Surgery Unit at Assiut University Children Hospital in Egypt.

In the report made by Ali and his team, they said, "It is crucial to have knowledge about it to be able to be identified."

According to the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports, the newborn baby also has two urethras. That means the baby can urinate out of both penises.

CDS is a condition that includes duplication of organs that are situated away from the center of the body.

Aside from having two urethras, the newborn baby also has a double colon and double imperforate anus.

What is CDS?

The case study, which is available at Science Direct, mentioned that CDS has no known cause. There are a lot of theories about its cause. However, the most accepted is the failure to separate monochorionic twins.

The study added, "CDS may be associated with other congenital anomalies as imperforate anus, renal anomalies, and omphalocele."

In the case of the newborn baby in Egypt, he had multiple duplications, which included:

  • Penis
  • Scrotum
  • Urethra
  • Colon
  • Imperforate anus

The procedures that the baby already had

Because of the baby's condition connected to his colon, he had to undergo a low descending colostomy.

After this, the report indicated that he "started feeding with normal passage from colostomy."

The possible procedures for the baby

Because the newborn baby has a double penis and two scrotums, he will need numerous procedures. However, these procedures may only be done once he is a bit older. There are not much procedures that the baby could have right now.

The medical experts from the Pediatric Surgery Unit at Assiut University Children Hospital in Egypt plans to conduct the staged repair once the baby is already in his 16th month.

As part of the case study's conclusion, the team members said, "CDS is a rare condition that needs a multidisciplinary team for its management that includes staged repair of duplications."
