A FedEx driver gives a basketball hoop to a young boy because she saw how beat-up the hoops the kid was using. Because of that, she has restored the child's mom's faith in humanity.
Did not notice it was something new
Coledo Wheeler found a brand-new Spalding basketball hoop when she came home last week from work. Without her noticing at first, it was set up in the yard, so her son, Elijah, has something new to use when playing basketball.
The mom wrote on her Facebook wall about the surprise that she saw that day. At first, she thought it was just the regular hoop that her son used to play with, which had a rough shape but still usable.
I'm really not sure where to begin. Dan and I came home from working. I didn't even see a new basketball hoop for Elijah... Posted by Coledo Cleo Wheeler on Sunday, November 8, 2020
Two letters attached on her porch
The New Trenton, Indiana, mom told NBC affiliate WLWT that she saw a mysterious instruction manual alongside a basketball. She said she saw two attached letters as she walked up to her home porch.
She wrote on social media that after finding out about a random act of kindness, she started tearing up instantly. Wheeler opened up the letters and found they were from a woman named Aubrey. On the first one, the sender wrote that she just wanted to have Wheeler and her son to have the best basketball hoop.
Aubrey explained that she wanted the child to have a hoop that would grow with him and his playmates. She also noted that it was wonderful that they play the sport with the little boy.
It took Wheeler a moment before she realized that the one who sent the surprise to her son is a FedEx driver who is responsible for delivering into their area. In her post, she wrote that Aubrey has come to the area and has seen her son shoot hoops with his friends.
Saw the boy cutting grass
Wheeler said that one day, Aubrey saw Elijah cutting grass. She told the child's parents that it was "awesome" to start training the children while still young.
The mom said that to surprise his son, she kept the new hoop a secret. When Eli returned home after visiting his dad, he had a priceless reaction. Wheeler wrote that her son knew who Aubrey was.
Saw the boy's priceless reaction
Eli started crying, and he was ready to play basketball. Wheeler also wrote that there are still good people in the world because of the amazing thing that Aubrey did out of pure kindness.
The grateful mom also noted that she plans to ask her son to write a letter to Aubrey. She would also be getting a thank-you card to give to the FedEx driver the next time she sees her.
In an updated post, Wheeler wrote that Aubrey came to their house to give sandbags to help the hoop weigh down. She also indicated in the post that she owes a world of thanks to Aubrey for making her son's day.
