A baby was rescued from the Rio Grande by troopers after being thrown there by smugglers who crossed the Mexico-U.S. border.
In a post on the official Facebook page of the Texas Department of Public Safety - South Texas Region, the story of how Texas Rangers rescued a 6-month old baby was recently shared. Netizens applauded the work of authorities who saved the baby.
Smugglers Assault Mother and Baby
According to an article from KWTX, the 6-month-old baby girl was thrown from a raft into the Rio Grande River by smugglers.
Reports also show that the mother of the baby got injured after they were assaulted in Mexico. The Department of Public Safety said that the mom got a broken leg because of the incident.
Reportedly, the mom was trying to cross the border by paying smugglers. According to one official from the Department of Public Safety, Lt. Christopher Olivarez, the mom, who remains unidentified, paid the smugglers 3,500 US Dollars to cross the border. Since December, the mother and her baby have been waiting to cross the border from Mexico into the United States.
Reports also disclosed more than 60 adults and around 150 children crossed the Rio Grande River and went to Roma.
Authorities rescue the baby girl
The South Texas Special Operations Group, Texas Rangers Division, is in charge of keeping things in order on Roma's border.
However, aside from facilitating the U.S. Border Patrol in Roma, the Texas Rangers Division became integral in the rescue of the 6-month-old baby girl thrown out of a raft in the Rio Grande River last March 16.
The Texas Rangers are the tactical team that carries out special missions along the Texas-Mexico border. According to the Facebook post of the Texas Department of Public Safety - South Texas Region, "The team's focus is to gather intelligence, conduct interdiction, and disruption of criminal activity usually associated with drug cartels."

Mom and baby are reunited
After the horrible incident that the mom and baby had to go through, reports say that the two have reunited already. According to Valley Central, despite the incident, the baby is now safe. Also, the mom and baby are now together but are in the U.S. Border Patrol custody.
