Director Guillermo del Toro is reportedly working on the delayed sequel of the movie "Pacific Rim," and wants Maisie Williams to be part of the cast.
Very recently, news of a sequel to the giant-robot movie Pacific Rim came out, and it brought good news to fans. Although there were earlier reports of the franchise given a heart-wrenching "indefinite delay," it is said that it is coming.
The recent reveal reported by Coming Soon said that Universal Pictures, the studio responsible for the giant robot-monster fistfight, issued a clarifying statement correcting the earlier reported delay.
“Legendary’s ‘Pacific Rim 2,’ originally scheduled for release on August 4, 2017, will be redated at a later time,” the statement reads. “The filmmakers, Legendary and Universal Pictures are committed to having ‘Pacific Rim 2,’ the sequel to 2013’s ‘Pacific Rim,’ which generated more $411 million at the global box office, be the vanguard, fully-immersive experience that the franchise deserves. To this end, the decision was made to delay the production and release of ‘Pacific Rim’ so that the creative team can continue in its efforts to exceed the amazing experience of the first film.”
CinemaBlend reports that there's even greater news for fans who also like "Game of Thrones" as Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro said that he wanted Maisie Williams to take part in it.
Taking to his Twitter account, del Toro posts that he wants to give the actress a robot of her own.
"If PR2 happens, that girl is getting a Jaeger," del Toro wrote.
Maisie Williams is known for her role as Arya Stark in GOT, and is also reported to co-star in the new season of "Doctor Who," alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman. With her short stature, Williams has proven that she can show a lot of attitude. Now imagine her driving her own Jaeger in the fight against humongous Kaijus, it just becomes even better.
It does seem that Pacific Rim 2, titled "Maelstrom" as per Entertainment Weekly, is going to be exciting for both Pacific Rim and Game of Thrones fans -- if it ever pushes through.
When it does, Pacific Rim 2 will be picking up a just a few years from where the first movie ended.
"It's a few years after the first one. It's not an immediate follow-up." said del Toro in an interview with Collider.
Although it's clear that a sequel is coming, it's still unclear when it will come. Del Toro's Crimson Peak is coming, and its success will be affecting the release of Maelstrom. So Pacific Rim fans, be sure watch Crimson Peak in theaters, on Oct. 16.
