According to court records, a student from New York University is suing her roommate and the roommate's mother, claiming they stole more than $50,000 in clothing, handbags, and jewelry and tried to sell them through an online consignment store.

Kaitlyn Fung Steals Over $50,000 Worth of Designer Items

The accusation claims Aurora Agapov's roommate, Kaitlyn Fung, "concocted a scheme" to steal Agapov's jewelry and high-end designer clothing and handbags to sell them on The RealReal.

Agapov, who finished her freshman year at NYU earlier this summer, noticed her belongings were missing around May 1.

On that day, she reportedly discovered a receipt made out to her roommate Fung, who is from Old Tappan, New Jersey, issued by the luxury consignment store The RealReal, detailing some of the items believed to have been stolen.

"My heart dropped," Agapov told the New York Post about discovering the thefts, including items gifted by her mother. "We spoke pretty much every day," she said about her relationship with Fung, noting there had been no major conflicts.

The RealReal stated that all consignors must confirm they have the right to sell the items and that the items aren't stolen. The company is cooperating with local authorities regarding Agapov's lawsuit and has provided all requested information.

The RealReal store in downtown Manhattan spokesperson stated that they will remove stolen items from the premises and investigate any possible incidents.

Additionally, they recommend that the alleged victim file a pleading with law enforcement and other legal authorities, as per the company's policy.

Neither Fung's nor Agapov's legal teams responded to requests for comment.

Aurora Agapov Sues Roommatef or Stealing Her Valuable Items

According to the lawsuit, Agapov confronted her roommate Fung, who she shared a residence with during the 2023-2024 academic year.

Fung acknowledged taking numerous valuable items, with some already sold through The RealReal, described as the premier marketplace for authenticated luxury consignment.

At Agapov's request, Fung allegedly logged into her RealReal account and showed Agapov the items listed for sale, including a Solange Azagury 18K ruby ring worth $23,765, a Celine Nanno tote worth $3,300, and a Chanel purse worth $4,000.

The app also supposedly listed stolen items that had been sold, such as a Chanel bracelet sold for $175 and a Bvlgari necklace sold for $2,485.

The accusation claims these items were sold for much less than their true market price, with the Chanel bracelet valued at $2,000 and the Bvlgari necklace at about $13,000.

Other stolen items listed but returned to Fung included a Gucci handbag, a Celine handbag, and Christian Louboutin shoes.

The lawsuit states the value of the unsold stolen items is about $31,000, while damages for the sold stolen items are at least $20,000.

Agapov reported the alleged theft to the NYPD on May 2, and Fung was arrested the same day, the lawsuit states.

When Agapov visited The RealReal store in downtown Manhattan to discuss the theft, an employee informed her that Fung's mother referred to as Jane Doe in the lawsuit, had instructed the store to send the unsold items to her home in New Jersey. Despite Agapov's demands, those items have not been returned, the lawsuit says.

A court summons for Fung was delivered to her father at their New Jersey residence on June 6, according to court documents.
