17-Year-Old Mom Poured Bleach To Her New Born Son

A 17-year-old mom, who kept her pregnancy from her parents was driven to such hysteria when she gave birth to a son in the toilet on their family home. The teen was so terrified that she poured bleach down to the boy's throat in West London in August last year.

The Old Bailey heard how the new unaided mom poured domestic bleach to the baby's mouth the moment he was born. The boy survived after receiving necessary treatment from a hospital, but his lips and mouth were badly scalded by the chemical.

The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with attempted murder but was reduced to child cruelty following psychiatric reports. The court likewise considered the girl's age and background.

During the assessment, the girl defended her misconduct by telling Dr Philip Joseph that she committed such act because she had a panic attack and insisted that she didn't intend to kill her newborn baby. Hence, the doctor concluded "even if she was suffering from an acute stress reaction, it was not of such severity that she was legally insane at the material time."

Dr. Philip further said that the defendant told him that just few seconds after she poured the bleach to the child she suddenly realized that what she's doing is wrong and "tried to wipe it away," her aunt subsequently came into the scene and went to her aid. The doctor also pointed out that the teen "does not know what she would have done" if her aunt hadn't come.

Dr Alison Wenzerul, the second expert who assessed the Muslim defendant said the teen was in a state of distressed at that time and was "unlikely" not fully aware of what she's doing during the incident.

During the arraignment, the defendant also claimed that she only poured a "drop" of toxic chemical to her son's mouth. Nevertheless, Prosecutor Edward Brown QC disagreed to the statement -- taking it from the baby's sustained injuries. He then scheduled for arraignment in Isleworth Crown Court in February 2016, as per Mail Online.
