The mind is one of the most inexplicable organs in the human body. You can think of neurons, synapses, and all that, but one thing that many didn't know is that whenever you can't stop yourself from reading, you are showing the effects of long-term brainswashing. Surprised? Don't be.
One neuroscientist said that having learned to read has done something irreversible to the brain, as reported by Mirror. This "brainwashing" started when mothers used to read bedtime stories to their children.
According to Lidia Stanton, who specializes in traumatic brain injuries, "neuroscientists and cognitive psychologists joke that reading is a form of brainwashing." This may sound funny but there is a scientific explanation behind it.
Lidia elaborated saying, "Literate people only need to look at print to know what it says." She said further, "If I put a word or two in front of your eyes, you'll feel compelled to read it - your brain does it for you automatically before you decide whether to read or not."
If you are confronted with a group of words, your instinct is to immediately read them. It has become like second nature to men who know how to read.
As a way of example, you can try to look at a group of words in a poster or even online, and try your best to look at them, without reading, according to Independent. It's somewhat impossible, right? It would be a feat to look at a group of words without reading them.
Another example is to compare a group of words from a group of pictures. You'll find out that it's very fast to read the group of words than identifying all the pictures. This just shows that reading is an "automatic" response of individuals whenever they see the letters of the alphabet before them. Once you've tried these experiments, you'll now understand why neuroscientists say that reading is a form of brainwashing.
