The world silently sympathized with Celine Dion when she lost late husband, René Angélil, to cancer in January. Having put off her Colosseum of Caesars Palace performance in order to mourn, she finally returned to the Las Vegas stage last Tuesday, giving Angelil a tribute that shows the depth of their 21-year marriage.
Celine Dion's show started with a heart-tugging tribute to René Angélil, which included portions of his life, his marriage to the songstress, and those that involved their three children, René -Charles and twins Eddy and Nelson.
The message in the tribute that captured the heart of the audience was Celine's words, "I understand that my career was in a way his masterpiece, his song, his symphony." It further read, "The idea of leaving it unfinished would have hurt him terribly. I realized that if he ever left us, I would have to continue without him, for him."
After the tribute, ET Online reported that Celine Dion performed Barbara Streisand's "With One More Look at You/Watch Closely Now." A standing ovation was given by the audience after the opening songs.
The songstress immediately went into a very emotional speech which described how René Angélil, who also happened to be her manager, was the person whom she trusted so much with everything. She said that she feels his presence everywhere whenever she closes her eyes.
As per the report of E! Online, for Celine, late husband René was "the only man that I have known all my life." She also shared, "We will always be one. You know, I might not hear his voice yet, but I talk to him, I think of him all the time. I feel and I know he hears me."
The tribute given by Celine Dion to late husband René Angélil showed the love and beauty of the couple's relationship, which was described by David Foster in People as "They were one of the greatest love stories ever, and I mean ever." With such a relationship strengthened by years, the bond between Celine and René is something that perhaps even time won't ever break.
