Labrador Puppy Shot 18 Times Manages to Survive Ordeal and Makes Remarkable Recovery

A black Labrador puppy, shot 18 times with a BB gun and bleeding heavily when rescuers found him, is now making a remarkable recovery. His injuries were considered severe which made rescuers initially doubt whether the puppy will pull through or not.

The abandoned Labrador, Brody, was apparently shot by two teenagers with a BB gun, and thereafter left him at the side of the road in Rock Hill, South Carolina, to die. The puppy was in great pain when he was rescued by one passerby, who immediately brought Brody to the Ebenezer Animal Hospital, according to Yahoo News.

The eight-week-old Labrador sustained severe injuries from multiple wounds. The 18 pellets managed to penetrate his soft skin and were lodged in his body, causing the heavy bleeding. Veterinarians at the animal hospital also found intestinal parasites in little Brody, as per AU News.

April Sprawn, one of the hospital staff, said: "He seems like he's gonna pull through. He's a strong little boy." She added that, "He's really, really sweet."

Since Brody is very little, the doctors couldn't use anesthesia to remove the pellets in his body. According to one of the veterinarians, Dr. Jay Hreiz, "He's really young, so he has a remarkable ability to heal at his age. Brody may be able to live a healthy normal life with all those BBs in him."

According to Brody's rescuer, he saw some 15 to 20 teenagers playing with Brody just before he found the puppy lying at the side of the road. Police sprang into action and arrested two teenagers for shooting Brody 18 times with a BB gun. The 14- and 17-year-old teenagers were also charged for throwing a knife at the puppy. They could face between 180 days to five years of imprisonment and a $5,000 fine.

With regards to a future home for Brody, the little Labrador should not worry as there have been hundreds of adoption offers.
