"Person of Interest" Season 5 is confirmed to be the sci-fi drama's series finale on CBS after the network officially announced its cancellation. In an interview, executive producer J.J. Abrams expressed his sentiments on the show's cancellation.
"Person of Interest" is set to end after five seasons on TV, as executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman delivered the sad news to fans and viewers. Nolan and Plageman thanked their fans for their support for "POI" through its five-season run on TV.
"As life has come to imitate Person of Interest, it's been our great privilege to work on show for the past five seasons. We can't wait for you to experience this thrilling and final chapter," they wrote, according to TV.com.
"Person of Interest" Season 5 will premiere on Tuesday, May 3. The show will then air two episodes each week every Monday and Tuesday starting on May 9. Many fans were disappointed to hear about the show's cancellation on TV.
In an earlier interview, executive producer J.J. Abrams also expressed his sentiments on the show's series finale. Back then, CBS has not yet confirmed the cancellation of "Person of Interest" after Season 5, but Abrams already had a feeling it would be the series finale.
"The only heartbreak there is how much good story there was to come if it were to have continued," he told IGN in an earlier interview. "But Jonah and Greg Plageman I think have done such an amazing job on that show and I know what these episodes are that they've done wrapping it up."
With that said, "Person of Interest" Season 5 will definitely not end with a cliffhanger and will, instead, provide fans with a satisfying ending. Fans, however, remain optimistic that their pleas to renew the series will be heard by another network such as Netflix, as their online petition continues to gain supporters.
