"Castle" has had eight successful seasons with "The Spirit" actress Stana Katic as Kate Beckett but has reached the end of the road. "Firefly" actor Nathan Fillion and co-star Molly Quinn broke their silence and reacted to "Castle" losing Stana Katic as Kate Beckett.
New York Daily News reports that Stana Katic is not the only member of the "Castle" series that will be given the boot. "Castle" season 9 will also lose Tamala Jones, who plays medical examiner Lanie Parish.
Deadline reports that the decision to remove Stana Katic and Lanie Parish from the next "Castle" season comes from budget concerns. "Castle" creator Andrew Marlowe expressed in social media that he is heartbroken over the tandem break-up of Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion.
The media agency, however, points out that internal buzz say Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion have had friction for a few years now, making work on the "Castle" set difficult. For "Castle" season 8, Nathan Fillion reportedly requested to limit filming with Stana Katic to two days a week.
According to TV Line, Nathan Fillion kept to professionalism when he addressed the news of Stana Katic leaving "Castle." In a social media message, Nathan Fillion praised and thank Stana Katic for the great work she did during the past years as police officer Kate Beckett.
Co-star Molly Quinn, who had been with "Castle" since she was a young girl, echoed creator Andrew Marlowe's sentiment. Molly Quinn related how horrible the day had been when the "Castle" series' loss of Stana Katic was announced.
Although heartbroken over Stana Katic, Molly Quinn emphasized that "Castle" will be going into a different direction but, will remain the series that fans came to love. A response by Molly Quinn to a fan who doubted "Castle" working as well without Stana Katic was telling. "Nathan Fillion is 'Castle,'" Molly Quinn said.
The "Castle" TV series has been in need of a make-over for some time now. Followers will now see if the departure of Stana Katic, and the responsibility falling on Nathan Fillion as sole lead, will take "Castle" into the direction it needs to stay on-air.
