'Once Upon A Time' News & Update: Mom Group Slams 'Distorted & Twisted' Fairy Tale For Showing Lesbian Kiss To Kids

A mom group has attacked the ABC fantasy drama series "Once Upon A Time." Its members are calling advertisers to boycott the show for corrupting the minds of its kid viewers. They cited the episode featuring a lesbian kiss, which aired on Sunday, April 17, as depicting of a "distorted and twisted" fairy tale.

One Million Moms, a Christian group, published a statement slamming "Once Upon A Time" and the episode "Ruby Slippers." In it, Ruby from "Little Red Riding Hood" was shown smooching Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz." It's no secret that "Once Upon A Time" was establishing a lesbian relationship in the series, but for the group, the scene went too far in "pushing a gay agenda."

"Once Upon A Time" Is In A Kid-Friendly Time Slot

The group believes that "Once Upon A Time" has a "family-friendly" time slot on television. Aired on a weekend at 8 p.m. and featuring well-loved fantasy characters, One Million Moms is aware that the show has many young viewers.

But they argue that the network, which is owned by Disney, doesn't make the effort to keep the series wholesome, especially after allowing the lesbian kiss to happen. They also cite that it's wrong for shows like "Once Upon A Time" to present homosexuality as normal. "In reality, that is their fairytale," the statement read.

"Once Upon A Time" Fans Argue On Facebook

Fans of "Once Upon A Time" also trooped to the site's official Facebook page to air their sentiments and many left disparaging comments about the lesbian kiss. However, some viewers believed that the show presented equality in the best way possible.

"This is an adult show with adult themes if people can't handle it then that's their own fault," said Kayla Murphy in the Facebook comments. "It's not a liberal agenda it's life," said Christine Maynard in the same discussion.

"My 13 year old still loves it," Murphy added. "She's smart enough to understand that you are born with your sexual identity you don't choose it."

"Once Upon A Time" executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis said that this relationship was only going to feature one aspect and it will not become the focus of the episode, per Entertainment Weekly. The show is going to feature a sibling rivalry in the next and it's not clear when Ruby and Dorothy are going to appear again.
